GM Announces New $4.5M Scholarship Program 2-11-2011

For many aspiring students in financial need, the road to a higher education will begin with the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program.
GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson and the General Motors Foundation have announced the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program, which will provide scholarships to students demonstrating financial need.
The $4.5 million scholarship program, which will be one of the nation’s largest, will take into consideration students who are the first in their family to attend college and are pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, design, marketing and finance.
Applications for the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program opened on Feb. 7, 2011, and will close on 11:59 p.m. Central Time pm March 31, 2011.
With a total of 1,100 recipients, the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program will award two levels of scholarships:
    1. 1,000 scholarships of $2,000 available for up to four years, and one additional year for those entering a five year engineering program. 2. 100 scholarships of up to $25,000 available for up to four years, and one additional year for those entering a five-year engineering program.

The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program, which can be used at any four-year accredited college or university in the United States, can be used towards the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, required equipment, room and board and other allowable expenses.
GM dealers will have Buick Achievers Scholarship Program information at their dealerships and on their websites. Only online applications will be accepted at www.buickachievers.com.
The funds for the scholarships come from the GM Foundation.
