County Public Safety Tax To Be On May Ballot 2-15-2011

Saginaw County leaders made a final decision on a tax proposal to support public safety during a meeting Tuesday.
The Board of Commissioners voted on a new five-year, 1-mill public safety tax during the 5 p.m. meeting at the county Govermental Center on South Michigan.
A sub-committee for the board has already agreed to let voters weigh-in on the debate, and the 15 commissioners followed their lead to let the public have a final say.
Figures show the tax would collect $4.4 million annually. If it fails, the county would lose nine road patrol deputies, eliminate a detective bureau and lay off employees in several other departments, authorities have said.
