GM May Build Paint Plant Near Flint Truck Plant 2-15-2011

It was a double-whammy of good news for General Motors employees at Flint Truck Assembly.
They were informed Tuesday afternoon that not only will a third shift be added, meaning the addition of 750 new jobs, but GM is looking at adding a paint plant next door.
"As it relates to the paint shop enhancements, we told employees GM is studying the possibility of adding a new paint pre-treatment facility," said plant communications manager Tom Wickham in a news release. "GM also is looking at other enhancements that might be made to the Flint Assembly paint operations.
"Pre-treatment is where we prepare the metal for painting," continued Wickham. "It is a critical part of the paint process, as it allows for the paint to be applied smoothly, as well as providing resistance to rust and corrosion."
Flint Assembly was built in 1947 and employs 2,100 employees. GM previously announced plans to add a third shift and 750 jobs to build the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD.
