Police: Woman Gives Away Baby To Stranger 2-16-2011

A psychological exam has been ordered for a woman who officials say drove up to a stranger and handed over her 14-month old baby.
It happened during the evening hours of Feb. 9 in the Imlay City Kroger parking lot.
After being given the baby, the stranger then alerted store officials, who contacted the police.
The baby’s mother was apprehended in the parking lot and was taken to the hospital for the evaluation.
She was not arrested and has yet to be charged in the case.
The baby wasn’t hurt and is now with family members.
The current situation does not invoke the state’s “safe haven” law, as any child left must be under 72 hours old to be supported under that law.
