Saginaw Voters Could Repeal Public Hiring Act 2-22-2011

Saginaw voters will decide in May whether a 76-year-old public act should be scratched from the city's books.
Right now, Public Act 78 gives the Civil Service Commission oversight of all police and fire department hiring and promotions.
According to a published report, City Manager Darnell Earley said the act was intended to avoid political corruption but is now outdated.
Eliminating the act is aimed at putting the police and fire unions on equal footing with the other city unions.
