Police Say Telephone Scam Targeting The Elderly 2-23-2011

Saginaw Township police are warning of a telephone scam that is targeting the elderly.
Police said the scam involves a caller representing himself as a police officer from Canada or another foreign country.
The con artist informs the elderly person that a relative, who is on vacation, has been arrested and immediately needs bond money wired to avoid jail time.
Police said, due to the urgency of the situation, victims wire the money and usually learn shortly afterward that it was a scam.
Police warn residents not to wire anyone money under these circumstances, until it can be confirmed the information is true.
