Community Mourns Loss Of 2 Women In Crash 2-28-2011

Residents in Bay City are grieving the loss of two young women killed in a weekend car crash in Midland County.
Midland County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the snow-covered scene Saturday, where they found Emilee Prime and Danette Decorte, both 19, both of Bay City, killed in a crash on M-20.
On Monday, grief counselors were on hand at their former school to help students deal with the loss of their past classmates, who were still heavily involved with the district.
“It took a moment to set in, of all the people, it just blew me away,” said Bay City Central High School Principal Tim Marciniak.
Marciniak said it's a loss not only for the school, but for the community.
He knew both Prime and Decorte, two alumni of Bay City Central. Both women graduated in 2009 and were still very much involved in the school.
“They were mentors in the building,” said Marciniak. “They just had a sense about them that they loved life, and they always had the smiles. That's what we'll miss most about them.”
Danette coached freshman volleyball for the past two years, and Prime helped out with the basketball team last year. The school had professionals on hand to speak with the athletes.
“They met with the coaches,” Marciniak said. “We broke them up with coaches and counselors, and they're telling stories. [They’re] sharing a lot of hugs and a lot of tears.”
Decorte leaves behind a sister who is a high school senior. The sister was in class Monday, surrounded by a close group of friends.
“I feel bad for her, I hope she's OK,” said classmate Tevan Bell.
“It's a loss and it's not any easier today than it was yesterday when I found out,” said Marciniak.
A funeral mass for Decorte has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Stan’s Church in Bay City. A mass for Prime will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Norbert Church.
