Freezing Rain Slickens, Closes Area Freeways 3-04-2011

Freezing rain closed portions of several Michigan freeways and made driving treacherous for early morning commuters Friday.
Authorities said icy roads have caused more than 40 accidents in Genesee County, along with several school closings.
Officials shut down northbound I-475 at Hill Road in Grand Blanc Township and eastbound I-69 at Saginaw Street due to injury accidents. One person was killed in an accident along I-475. No details were released.
Several accidents have also been reported in Bay County, Midland County and Saginaw County.
Further south Interstate 94, Interstate 75 and the Lodge Freeway (M-10) were closed early Friday morning in Detroit, while portions of the Southfield Freeway (M-39) in Dearborn and Interstate 96 in Howell also have been shut down.
TV5 Meteorologist Catherine Bodak says freezing rain is expected to change to rain by afternoon. High temperatures in the low 40s are expected. A winter advisory is in effect for mid- and northern Michigan.
"Temperatures are going to warm up from south to north where they will eventually reach the upper 30s and low 40s," Bodak said. "Once those temperatures rise above freezing, most areas will just be dealing with the rain, although there will be a chance of some mixing in areas in our most northwestern counties."
Widespread rain is likely with a wintry mix continuing into Saturday as well. Tonight the mercury will dip into the low 30s.
High temperatures will reach the mid 30s on Saturday with cooler air filtering in by Sunday with a slight chance of snow showers.
