Go Red For Women Luncheon Raises $87K 3-07-2011

Officials of the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women luncheon said the event was a success as more than 200 women participated and raised over $87,000 to fight women’s heart disease.
Funds raised from the Go Red For Women campaign of the Great Lakes Bay Region go toward lifesaving education and research dedicated to women’s heart disease.
The event was hosted by Katie O’Mara of WNEM TV5 and Blondie of WHNN 96 FM.
A silent auction, educational seminars and speakers filled the day, including Jesse Gales the Head Chef of Weight Watchers, and motivational speaker and cardiovascular disease survivor Chuck Cote’.
A highlight of the day also included the first Great Lakes Bay Region Nancy Barker Heart of Life Award for Community Service. Barker, of Midland, who has been involved with Go Red For Women since it started six years ago.
"We have a very special group of volunteers who are very dedicated to fighting heart disease,” stated Stacey Gannon, Go Red For Women Chairperson. “They are the reason the luncheon was such a success and why we continue to save more and more lives every year from heart disease.”
American Heart Association staff also attribute the success to the sponsors like Covenant HealthCare, Mid-Michigan Health, St. Mary’s of Michigan and Dow Corning.
"Our local supporters have embraced the cause and do so much to make the event a success,’” said Jennifer Hancock, corporate events director for the American Heart Association.
