Council Approves $6.1M Condo Plan In Old Town 3-08-2011

New life could be on its way to Old Saginaw City after the City Council unanimously approved a renaissance zone extension development that could lead to a $6.1 million riverfront condominium complex across from Ojibway Island.
Saginaw developer SSP Associates Inc., a partnership led by Dr. Samuel H. Shaheen, has been trying since 2005 to construct the mixed use building, but the economic downturn delayed the project’s start.
The proposed 30-unit housing development with some commercial space would be built on a vacant lot on North Hamilton.
The Saginaw County Board and state officials also must sign off on the extension.
Reports said construction would have to start before Dec. 31, 2012.
