New Study Could Recommend Closing City Hall 3-08-2011

“Sometimes you have to spend money now to save money for the future," Saginaw City Council member Larry Coulouris told TV5 Tuesday.
Coulouris is referring to the $51,000 contract approved Monday night by City Council for Plante Moran CRESA to study space efficiency needs for Saginaw's services.
The municipal consultant firm will decide what to do with Saginaw’s Public Services building, police and fire department facilities and the 74-year-old governmental center.
The group will then determine if any buildings should be closed.
Coulouris said the city has a lot of unanswered questions, including what to with City Hall, 1315 S. Washington, which already has a leaky roof and lacks energy efficiency technologies.
The city is hoping the study will help determine if City Hall should be renovated, re-purposed or have operations moved elsewhere.
Officials said the group could finish the study in 45 to 60 days.
