Residents Say Sewer Switch Costing Too Much 3-09-2011

Residents said foreclosures are mounting in Gladwin County’s Billings Township as a result of their sewer bills.
TV5 talked with residents who said it all stems from a 2006 switchover to a new sewer service for some 700 properties.
Environmental quality officials said sewage was seeping into the Tittabawassee River.
Residents were told to pay a $10,000 hook up fee or get a lien on their property. The latter was a tax of nearly $800 per year for the next 40 years.
Billings Township supervisor Julia Nephew said she is researching grants or possible assistance from the Gladwin County Housing Commission to help struggling property owners.
