Suspected Bomb Threat Ruled A False Alarm 3-16-2011

TV5 has learned a man with a possible bomb in his truck forced authorities to temporarily close down part of Old Town Saginaw on Wednesday.
Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel told TV5 the man believed a family member was building a bomb and brought it to the Sheriff’s Department to have them look at it. The man said the box, which had different colored wires running from it, was made by a relative.
The area round the Saginaw courthouse was cordoned off and the Michigan State Police bomb squad was called in to investigate.
The bomb squad ruled that the device was not a bomb. They were at the scene for about an hour.
Federspiel told The Saginaw News the device looked like a power inverter.
During the incident, the courthouse is was open for business and wasn't affected by the situation.
Federspiel told a TV5 photographer that residents should not bring any suspected bombs to the Sheriff's Department as the area is heavily populated. Instead, call 911 and authorities will come to the location of the possible explosive device.
