Man, 59, Killed In Saginaw County House Fire 3-16-2011

Authorities were called to 3664 Mack Road, just west of I-75 in Bridgeport Township, in response to a house fire around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Officials say one person was killed in the blaze. That man is believed to be 59 years old.
Authorities said the man was found in the hallway of the home.
"I couldn't get in, the smoke knocked me back and I got strangled and I started coughing," said neighbor Herman Stapleton, who attempted to rescue the victim.
Other neighbors told TV5 they believed that the homeowner's 12-year-old grandson was also inside the structure.
As firefighters worked to get the flames under control and search for victims, Robert Hutchison said he was worried about his good friend, the 12-year-old boy.
"We have since learned that the 12-year-old was off-site, so we do not have a child victim," said Bridgeport Township Fire Chief Patrick Nelson. "We did locate an adult victim, who is deceased unfortunately."
Michigan State Police troopers and Bridgeport-Spaulding police were at the scene, along with the Bridgeport Fire Department.
The residence was a single story ranch-style home. A state fire investigator is seeking the cause of the blaze.
