Verizon To Launch 4G Network Locally This Year 3-22-2011

Verizon Wireless announced Tuesday that it is bringing the world’s first large-scale 4G Long Term Evolution network to Flint, Saginaw and Bay City by the end of the year.
Officials said customers in the Tri-City area will join wireless phone and broadband users in 40 other major markets who are already experiencing one of the most advanced 4G mobile networks in America.
The company plans to offer 4G LTE in more than 145 metropolitan areas by the end of the year, including the Michigan cities of Bay City, Flint, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Saginaw. Verizon launched 4G LTE in Detroit earlier this year.
The company said it will unveil several new 4G LTE devices, including smartphones, tablets and notebooks by the end of the year.
Verizon Wireless claims the 4G LTE network has provided users with 4G LTE with speeds up to 10 times faster than the company’s 3G network. In real-world, fully-loaded network environments, LTE users should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink, according to Verizon.
