Police Say Double Rollover Crash Injures 2 Teens 3-22-2011

Saginaw County emergency crews responded to a double rollover crash on Miller and Trinklein roads in Saginaw County’s James Township late Tuesday morning.
The crash occurred just before noon. The Saginaw County Sheriff's Department said two teenage drivers were following each other at a high rate of speed while traveling southbound on Miller.
The driver of a red Pontiac Bonneville was in the lead and made a sudden left turn and was hit by the vehicle closely following behind. The Bonneville flipped over onto its roof in a residential yard, while the trailing vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner, rolled over into a ditch.
Authorities said two teens were riding in one vehicle and three teens were in the other. Two teens were taken to area hospitals, while three others were treated at the scene and released to their parents. The two hospitalized teens were not seriously hurt. Deputies said the oldest teenager involved is 16 years old.
Investigators said all the teens were wearing seat belts. An independent witness told investigators at the scene that the two cars were passing one another at a high rate of speed on a two-lane road. The drivers of both cars admitted they were driving recklessly.
Police told TV5 the teens involved were Swan Valley High School students. That school dismissed class at 10:50 a.m. for an in-service day.
The crashes remain under investigation and no citations have been issued to the drivers.
