Officer Accused In Sex Assault To Stand Trial 3-23-2011

A Midland police officer charged with sex crimes was bound over for trial Tuesday after waving his right to a preliminary hearing.
Jeffery Doyle, 39, is accused of sexually assaulting a woman. Right now he's being held in an undisclosed jail.
Doyle, an 18-year veteran with the Midland force, is suspended from the police department without pay.
Midland County Prosecutor Michael D. Carpenter said two weeks ago that Doyle is facing one count of extortion, third-degree criminal sexual conduct, fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of obstruction of justice.
TV5 obtained a copy of the felony complaint. It alleges that, on Feb. 15, Doyle forced a woman to perform a sex act. It also alleges that Doyle had reason to know the victim was physically helpless, mentally incapacitated or mentally incapable.
During the hearing, the judge refused to lower Doyle's bond, which is set at $400,000 cash. Doyle faces up to 42 years in prison if convicted of all charges.
