New Gym Opens At Former Potential Energy Site 3-25-2011

The grand opening of the Saginaw Athletic Club took place Friday morning, and operators showed off a newly renovated venue that was the former Potential Energy Athletic Club.
That facility closed last April and laid off 29 people. The new club, located at 6125 Gratiot Road in Saginaw Township, is holding a members social from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday night.
The club states on its website that it offers monthly memberships along with renovated locker rooms, newly resurfaced tennis courts and new field turf.
More information about the club's offerings can be found on its website.
When Potential Energy folded, co-owner Chuck Hise issued a letter to members saying club memberships had been dropping for the past few years and drastically in the year leading up to the gym's closure.
“In this business, retention and new membership sales are everything,” he wrote.
Another newly opened gym on Bay Road across from the Fashion Square Mall also recently went under.
In September 2009, Saginaw Township's Powerhouse Gym closed without warning. Many of its clients transferred to Potential Energy.
