Teen Father Charged After Newborn Found In Attic 3-28-2011

A 16-year-old Mid-Michigan boy has been charged with one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct in the pregnancy of a 13-year-old girl whose newborn son was found dead in a friend's attic.
The Port Hope teen will not be charged as an adult, the Huron County prosecutor said. The charge is a 15-year felony.
An autopsy is pending on the newborn's body, which authorities found Sunday after speaking with the mother at an area hospital. Medical staff had determined the girl had given birth after she sought treatment.
The Port Hope girl hadn't told anyone she was pregnant. She was staying with a friend over the weekend.
Authorities said they began investigating Saturday night after being called to a local hospital for a criminal sexual conduct complaint.
A physician determined the girl's medical problems were the result of a pregnancy, but police say she hadn't told anyone and no one had suspected her of being pregnant.
The 16-year-old told investigators about an "incident" last summer involving the girl.
Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson says authorities aren't sure if the boy knew of her pregnancy.
