Bus Vandalism Forces Lapeer Schools To Close 3-28-2011

School has been canceled for the day at all Lapeer Community Schools because of vandalism to 50 buses.
The announcement about Monday's school closings was made on the 6,000-student district's website.
Communications Specialist Mike Arnholt said air was let out of front tires on 50 of 73 buses Sunday night.
The district said one or more people entered the fenced-in depot and let out the air. There appeared to be no permanent damage.
Workers were refilling the tires on Monday.
School officials said the missed day will need to be made up at the end of the year because the district is out of snow days.
Lapeer city police are investigating.
Update on after-school activities:
Cancellations include: • All Middle School athletic practices.
Events that will still take place include:
• The Lapeer East track team WILL be traveling to Saginaw Valley State University as planned.
• Because the school closing was not weather-related, athletic practices at the high schools still will take place. Coaches will call if any practices are canceled.
• The Senior Citizen’s Fitness class at Cramton will take place this afternoon as scheduled. There also will be a snow day make-up session for the class tomorrow, Tuesday, March 29. The last regularly scheduled Senior Fitness class for this school year is Wednesday, March 30.
• The walking program at Lapeer West will take place as scheduled. The program concludes this week. Thursday night, March 31, is the last night of the walking program for this school year.
• The children’s cooperative LCS/Parks and Recreation volleyball practices scheduled tonight at the Rolland-Warner gym will take place as scheduled.
Rescheduled events include: • The Music/ Reading assembly at Turrill Elementary is rescheduled for Tuesday, March 29, at 2:10 pm.
