Armed Man Prompts Kingston School Lockdown 3-29-2011

Kingston Elementary School was placed on lockdown Monday afternoon when police said a 28-year-old man armed with a 2-foot-long metal “breaker bar” attempted to enter the school.
Kingston Community Schools Superintendent Alan Broughton said the man was seen moments before holding the weapon in his hand blocking traffic, including a bus with more than 60 students on board.
"He did get to the school," said Alan Broughton, interim school superintendent. He came up to the doors and tried to get in but obviously they were locked for the lockdown. Shortly after the Tuscola County sheriff arrived and placed him in custody."
Tuscola County sheriff deputies arrested the Kingston man in front of the school just after 3:15 p.m.
He is currently lodged at the Tuscola County Jail. Charges are pending, officials said.
Broughton said the district will be sending a letter to parents regarding the incident.
No one was injured. Authorities said they believe alcohol was a factor. To read that letter, click here.
