Public Entities Move To Tighten Fiscal Belt 3-29-2011

The mayor of Flint and nine members of city council may take a pay cut.
Mayor Dayne Walling and Councilman Joshua Freeman will hold a meeting Tuesday to discuss cutting 10 percent of their salaries.
That meeting will be at Flint City Hall on South Saginaw Street at 5:30 p.m.
The city faces a deficit of nearly $20 million but recently approved an $8 million bond to help pay off the debt.
Meanwhile, Chesaning school board members have voted to take a pay cut. The Saginaw News reported the board will be paid a flat rate of $575 per year.
Before the change, board members received about $700 per year. The new rate is about an 18 percent cut.
Chesaning school officials are trying to find ways to cut the budget. That’s because if Gov. Rick Snyder's budget proposal goes through, the district, like many others, stands to lose $470 per student.
Snyder is working to get the state back into the black and plug a $1.8 billion deficit.
