Boy, 8, Critical After Shots Fired Into Minivan 3-30-2011

An 8-year-old Genesee County boy is in critical condition after shots were fired into a minivan where he sat with his sister, mother and her boyfriend while waiting to go to school.
The shooting occurred at the Kings Lane Apartments, located at 4400 Kings Lane in Burton about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The family was waiting outside the apartment building when a sport-utility vehicle pulled alongside.
“Four to six rounds were fired from a handgun into the vehicle,” Burton police Detective Tom Bade said. “The 8-year-old boy was struck once through his arm and into his chest.”
The boy was last listed in critical condition. The child has undergone one surgery and another is scheduled.
Bade told TV5 no one in the car recognized the men who were inside the late 1990s or early 2000s medium blue Ford Expedition.
Police are still searching for the gunmen and are hoping to use surveillance video to crack the case.
No one else in the minivan was wounded.
