Flint Mayor To Layout '12 Budget; Cuts Expected 4-04-2011

Flint Mayor Dayne Walling will present his proposed budget for the next fiscal year at Monday night’s city council meeting.
More cuts are expected with the city is facing a multimillion dollar deficit. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Just last week, the mayor and City Council took a 10 percent pay cut.
Those cuts will save the city about $30,000 as it faces a potential $17 million budget deficit.
"It’s important that leadership comes from the top,” Walling said referring to his request to have his pay cut. “Now it’s the time to do more.”
Walling’s new salary will be just under $92,000. The council president's salary will drop from $25,000 to $22,260, the vice president's new pay will be $20,380 and the other seven council members will now make $19,907.
Flint’s 2011-2012 fiscal year begins on July 1.
