Rising Tittabawassee River Closes More Roads 4-04-2011

Midland County Central Dispatch continues to announce road closures because of rising Tittabawassee River waters.
The region saw a substantial amount of precipitation Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. Earlier melted snow also led to the significant rise in river level.
Since Monday, emergency officials have announced the following closures:
  • Castor Road at Walter Road
  • Barden Road at Grant
  • Dublin Avenue at Plumtree Lane
  • Tittabawassee River Road at Green Road
  • St. Andrews between Orchard and Eastman
  • Golfside Drive at Currie Golf Course
  • Currie Parkway
  • Emerson Park

Midland County residents are experienced at dealing with the flooding in those areas, as spring rains and snowmelt tend to flood the roads.
Central dispatch did not give any timeline as to when the roads would reopen.
A flood warning for areas around the river in Saginaw and Midland counties remains in effect until 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. TV5 meteorologist Mike Cameron said the river will likely crest about a foot above the 24-foot flood stage sometime Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has also issued a flood warning for areas around the Rifle River near Sterling in Arenac County. Forecasters expect the Rifle River will crest Tuesday too.
