Local Police Begin Issue Alerts Â? On Facebook 4-04-2011

Several local police departments are now turning to Facebook to issue public safety alerts.
The move comes after the popular online service Nixle started charging law enforcement agencies a subscription fee to use its emergency notification system.
The Saginaw Township and Frankenmuth police departments are among the local agencies switching to Facebook.
Officials said using Nixle service could cost up to $3,000 per year beginning in 2012.
