Kinship Bonds MSP Following Trooper's Death 4-06-2011

Troopers said their hearts are heavy as they remember Jeffrey Werda, an 10-year veteran of the Michigan State Police who gave his heart and soul to the job they say he loved.
Flags are flying at half-staff in front of the Michigan State Police Bridgeport Post.
Werda spend the last two years of his career at the Bridgeport post.
"This is just a real difficult morning for everyone,” said Lt. Patrick Mcgreevy, a spokesman for the MSP. “He was out of the Gladwin Post, Detroit -- he was a fine trooper.”
MSP officials said Werda was driving to assist the Saginaw County Sheriff's Department with a pursuit when his cruiser spun out of control while traveling westbound on Birch Run Road in Taymouth Township.
He was attempting to join a chase where a motorist was trying to flee police near St. Charles. While he was driving on Birch Run Road, just west of Morrish Road, his vehicle swerved sharply to the left, rolled several times near a drainage ditch, and left a debris trail several hundred feet long.
Werda’s vehicle was equipped with a black box, which should tell crash investigators how fast he was traveling and what may have gone so terribly wrong.
Troopers said they know their job is dangerous, and that every night when they go to work, it could potentially be their last.
Lt. Stephen Sipes, with the Flint MSP post, said this is a difficult situation no trooper was prepared for.
“They are very close,” said Sipes. "They rely on each other daily, many times during very difficult situations. He will be missed.”
Werda's funeral will be held at Gladwin High School this Saturday at 11 a.m.
