Detroit Says Protest Plans Disrupt Bus Service 4-13-2011

The City of Detroit says bus service has been disrupted after dozens of drivers called in sick to attend a protest at the state Capitol.
A spokeswoman for Mayor Dave Bing tells the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News that some buses were running a half-hour behind Wednesday morning.
She says the Detroit Department of Transportation has been calling in workers on their scheduled day off to handle bus routes.
A message seeking comment was left Wednesday morning by The Associated Press for the Amalgamated Transit Union local that represents the drivers.
Thousands of Michigan teachers, public employees and others were preparing to protest in continued opposition to budget plans proposed by Republican Gov. Rick Snyder and the GOP-led Legislature.
