Area Doctor Remains Jailed After New Charges 4-14-2011

A judge has ordered a Saginaw doctor to remain in jail while facing charges in two separate drug cases.
Dr. Ruth Buck was free and awaiting trial on prescription drug crimes when she was arrested last week in a new case involving medical marijuana
She's accused of abusing the Michigan law by certifying patients for pot without thorough exams.
During a hearing Thursday, federal Judge Thomas Ludington in Bay City ordered Buck to remain in custody.
He said the allegations in both cases are similar, with the only difference being the type of drugs.
Investigators say Buck has certified about 1,900 people for medical marijuana during visits that cost at least $150.
Defense attorney Carl Marlinga said the new charge has no merit.
