Some Mich. Universities Raising Housing Costs 4-15-2011

Some Michigan universities are increasing prices for students who live in residence halls as part of an effort to cover increased costs.
The Detroit News reports Eastern Michigan University's board on Thursday approved a 2.1 percent increase to its overall room and board rate for the 2011-2012 academic year and Central Michigan University decided to increase its room and board rate by 1.48 percent.
On Friday, Michigan State University's board is scheduled to vote on whether to increase room and board by 4.95 percent. Michigan State says most of the increase is going to cover higher food and utility costs, and the room and board rate is rising less than it did a year ago.
The University of Michigan is expected to set room and board rates in May.
