Covenant Issues Statement On Employee's Arrest 4-19-2011

Below is a statement released by Covenant HealthCare Tuesday morning, after WNEM.com broke the news that a hospital employee was arrested on charges including possession with intent to deliver cocaine.
The Saginaw County sheriff's office said the 41-year-old woman worked at the hospital for nine years, lately as a coordinator in the area that serves pregnant women and newborns.
"Covenant was very shocked and disappointed to learn of this employee's conduct as it is not at all representative of the 4200 employees who put their heart into their work at Covenant. The community can be assured the individual in question is no longer an employee of Covenant as she represented herself as engaging in illegal activities during work hours and on Covenant Property.
Our Standards of Conduct, which apply to all employees, strictly prohibits “immoral, indecent, illegal, unethical or dishonest conduct and behavior which adversely affects Covenant’s reputation in the community.”
In addition, Covenant’s drug policy is very stringent. Employees may not use, possess, conceal, manufacture, distribute, divert, dispense, or sell controlled substance, narcotics, drugs or alcohol while on the premises.
Violation of this policy may result in corrective action, up to and including discharge.
We are thankful for the support and cooperation of the Sheriff's Department and their work with the Covenant Security Department to resolve this matter."
