Woman Crashes Car Into Oakland County Bridge 4-19-2011

Yellow caution tape is all that remains to mark the location where a 34-year-old Ortonville woman lost control of her car Monday afternoon and nearly flipped into a canal for White Lake.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies said she was driving her 2009 Ford Focus eastbound on Beaumont Drive between East Clarice and Woodland when, according to her statement, “she dropped her wallet and reached down to get it.”
When she did so, her car veered to the left, left the roadway, knocked down an aluminum railing and struck the concrete bridge abutment, causing the car to lift and come to rest at about a 45-degree angle with the right tires sitting on the edge of the roadway and the left tires in the air.
Both the woman and her passenger, a 10-year-old Highland Township boy, were uninjured but remained trapped in the vehicle for more than half an hour while Highland Township firefighters and Lakeside Towing worked to secure the vehicle from falling into the canal.
Once it was secured, the woman and boy were rescued safely and checked by medical personnel.
Deputies investigating the crash issued the driver two citations; one for failure to use due care and caution and one for driving with an expired license.
