Dog Found With Man's Belt Imbedded In Neck 4-19-2011

A male Labrador retriever is recovering after being discovered tied to a tree behind Animal Control in Genesee County.
A TV5 viewer submitted detailed information about the incident.
On Monday, two people working with Genesee County Animal Control said they heard whimpering in the woods along a walkway leading to the exercise yard at Animal Control. They found a young black Lab close to death, tangled in trees with cables and a man’s belt imbedded into his neck.
The tipster went on to say the vet on duty took the dog into the hospital and performed emergency surgery.
The dog, named Jonah by his rescuers, is expected to survive.

The rescuers believe Jonah had been tied up all weekend and launched a campaign to bring awareness to the dog's plight on Facebook, Craigslist and other social media platforms.
“He is a good boy, wagged his tail and never showed any sign of aggression,” said a Craigslist posting. “He even was happy to let the veterinary staff pick him up and get him on the operating table.”
Animal Control officials are hoping the public helps them find who is responsible for leaving the dog in such condition outside their facility.
Anyone wanting to contribute to the dog’s rehabilitation fund can do so by contacting the veterinary clinic where Jonah is recovering:

  • Riverside Animal Hospital
  • 4359 North Seymour Road
  • Flushing, MI 48433
