A 41-year-old man who police said was texting while driving has pleaded guilty to a crash that killed a 78-year-old woman in Attica Township.
Jerry Joseph, of Lapeer, pleaded guilty to a moving violation causing death and to driving without insurance on Thursday.
Officials with the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department said 81-year Paul Paquin and his wife, Irene, were in a vehicle traveling north on Lake Pleasant Road when Joseph failed to stop at a stop sign and hit the Paquins' car on the passenger side.
Irene was killed in the Nov. 30, 2010, crash, and Paul was seriously injured.
Police later determined that Joseph was texting on his phone at the time of the crash.
