Detroit Rail Project Faces Possible Delays 4-28-2011

A dispute about how a proposed light rail system in Detroit should work is threatening to delay or block the project.
The Detroit Free Press reports Thursday that questions center on whether the line should provide a faster service to and from downtown Detroit or if a slower line should be planned.
Other issues include design and funding.
The first phase between the New Center area and downtown was planned to be up and running in 2015, but that has been pushed back to 2016.
Plans are to eventually connect the line with another section stretching north to Eight Mile Road.
The cost of the full project is pegged at about $530 million.
