Saginaw Township Issues Flooding Statement 4-28-2011

The Saginaw Township Manager, Ronald Lee, issued this statement regarding localized flooding: Due to the severe wet weather, Saginaw Township Residents are asked to be patient with storm drainage and ponding that is occurring in yards, some roads and across sidewalks. As of midnight last Tuesday, 2.2 inches of rain were recorded on the rain gauge at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The ground is supersaturated at the moment. This means it cannot absorb water into the ground and is ponding above ground. All sewer pump stations have been activated and going at "full throttle." In spite of this, we have reports of surcharging with water backing up into basement sewers in a few neighborhoods where it is a combined sewer system.
The County Road Commission and Saginaw Township have personnel out facing the most immediate calls where public safety might be at risk. In addition, all Saginaw Township boat launches are closed at this time due to flooding of the parks. Vehicles should avoid the intersection of West Michigan and Center Road at this time.
We ask for your patience as we deal with this severe week of rain.
