Feds Break Up Detroit Metro Airport Drug Ring 4-28-2011

Federal authorities said they've arrested 10 former or current baggage handlers in a major drug-smuggling investigation at Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Khaalid Walls said the 10 worked for Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc.
He said the case involves cocaine and marijuana.
In all, 12 people have been charged.
Authorities say the bags were marked with a red "X" or had plastic bags or plastic ties on the handle. The investigation began in early 2010 in Jamaica when 53 pounds of marijuana was discovered in a suitcase bound for Detroit.
Delta says the employees have been suspended without pay, and additional disciplinary action could be taken pending the final outcome of the investigation.
In a statement, the carrier says it doesn't tolerate employees being "found using their position for illegal activity."
