Founding Kalamazoo Bishop Dies 4-29-2011

Bishop Paul V. Donovan, the founding bishop of the Diocese of Kalamazoo, has died. He was 86
The Diocese of Kalamazoo announced his death Thursday.
Michigan State Police said his body was found that morning about 150 feet from his vehicle near the Gun Lake Casino in Allegan County's Wayland Township.
The diocese said Donovan faced declining health in recent years.
Police say health issues and cold, rainy weather may have been a factor in his death, which was under investigation.
Ordained a priest in 1950, Donovan served in the Diocese of Lansing prior to becoming the founding bishop of the Diocese of Kalamazoo in 1971 at age 46.
Donovan led the diocese in southwestern Michigan until 1994, when he resigned for health reasons.
Funeral details were pending Friday morning.
