Snyder Wants To Help Districts With Deficits 5-03-2011

Gov. Rick Snyder said he hopes to avoid appointing emergency financial managers to most of 23 Michigan school districts with deficits that exceed $1 million.
The Republican governor told the Detroit Free Press in an interview published Tuesday that he prefers state assistance to help them avoid insolvency.
Snyder said he doesn't "want to be in a position where we need an emergency financial manager." He says that's a "failure."
Snyder said last week that 23 districts are more than $1 million in debt and could have emergency financial managers appointed.
The Free Press said 18 of the districts are in the Detroit area and include Detroit Public Schools, which already has an emergency financial manager.
