Homeland Security Conference Attracts Hundreds 5-03-2011

The 2011 Great Lakes Homeland Security Training Conference and Expo began in downtown Grand Rapids Tuesday, with organizers saying the death of Osama bin Laden will not lead to any changes in this year's event.
The annual event provides training to all disciplines of homeland security and emergency management to continue strengthening Michigan's capabilities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from potential threats.
The three-day conference is expected to bring together more than 1,400 individuals from the public and private sectors, all levels of government, emergency management, law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, public health and healthcare, security officers and school administrators.
Retired Army Lieutenant General Russel Honore was the keynote speaker Tuesday, and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani will speak at the event on Thursday.
The conference also includes a diverse line-up of topics such as active shooters, hospital security, Haiti earthquake lessons learned, recognizing bomb threats, broadband for public safety, and crisis management.
