21-Year-Old Mid-Michigan Soldier Killed In Iraq 5-04-2011

A Clare County family is mourning a 21-year-old soldier killed while serving in Iraq.
The U.S. Department of Defense said Pfc. Robert M. Friese, 21, of Harrison, died April 29 in Al Qadisiyah province, Iraq, of injuries suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with a rocket-propelled grenade.
Friese was assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment out of Fort Hood, Texas. He was a 2007 graduate of Harrison High School.
Aunt Carol Friese told the Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant her nephew "was a great kid and was always willing to help you with something."
Robert Friese's parents traveled to Maine to bring home their son's body and are expected to return on Thursday. The military announced his death Sunday.
Memorial services are being planned.
His former principal, Tom House, says Friese was "an outstanding young man and a very, very fine citizen."
