State Police Call Proactive Patrols Successful 5-04-2011

The Michigan State Police Flint Post said six guns were seized in a 72-hour period this past weekend in Flint -- as part of its proactive patrols.
Two of the six guns were sawed-off shotguns concealed on people who were loitering in the parking lot of two different convenience stores, according to a news release.
From Oct. 1, 2010 through April 30, 2011, troopers assigned to Flint have made nearly 3,000 traffic stops in the city’s high-crime areas. Police said troopers identified the high-crime areas using statistics, intelligence gathering efforts and information on crime trends provided by Flint police.
During the time period, troopers have generated the following:
  • 278 felons arrested
  • 437 fugitive arrests
  • 258 people lodged in jail
  • 90 arrests for carrying concealed weapons
  • 45 people arrested for felon in possession of firearm
