The Great Lakes Loons, helped by the strong pitching starting pitcher Red Patterson, achieved their first shutout victory of the season, by defeating the West Michigan Whitecaps by a score of 4-0.
The Loons scored in the second inning, thanks to a single from Jon Garcia. Great Lakes scored another run in the fifth inning when Blake Deans single scored Christian Lara.
Dean and Garcia led the team's offense with each player going two-for-four and combining for four RBI's.
Loons centerfielder Leon Landry hit a triple to lead open the seventh inning.
Lara was plunked by a pitch and both base runners advanced after a Nathan Newman wild pitch and then scored on Dean's single to complete the scoring for the Loons.
The Loons, who moved to 17-10 with the win, play Game 2 of their three-game series against the Whitecaps on Thursday evening.
RHP Zach Lee is scheduled to start for the Loons and opposes Whitecaps pitcher Antonio Cruz.
Scheduled game time at Dow Diamond is 7:05 PM.
