Cinco De Mayo Parade Set For This Weekend 5-06-2011

Preparations are under way right now for the big Cinco De Mayo festival in Saginaw on Saturday.
There will be a parade followed by a celebration at the Dow Event Center. WNEM TV5's Craig McMorris spoke with event organizers and said food will be a big part of the experience.
"I put all my love in my food, my energy, cause if you don't come with energy and love, nothing comes good," said restaurant owner Maria Jimenez.
Jimenez showed off some of the dishes from her restaurant, El Rancho Grande. Her tacos, nachos, burritos, tamales and cinnamon chips will all be available Saturday afternoon at the event center. It's just some of the fare people can enjoy from noon to 5 p.m. There will also be live music and folkloric dancers.
The big party follows the big parade, which begins at 10 a.m. with the staging area on Ojibway Island. It starts from Ezra Rust Drive over the Court Street bridge, turning north on Michigan Avenue, then east on Genesee, ending near the Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy on Niagara Street.
Tejano music star David Lee Garza will also be a part of the parade.
Jimenez invites everyone to come to the events center and have a good time, and she gave it to TV5 in her native tongue. "Bienvenidos a la fiesta Mexicana de Cinco de Mayo, en Saginaw, Michigan!” she said.
There will also be a 5K run-walk and an inflatable playland for the kids at the Dow.
