Child Suspended After Giving Pills To Classmates 5-06-2011

TV5 has learned a first-grader brought prescription pills to school and handed them out to three kids who were allegedly bullying her.
The superintendent of Bad Axe Public Schools, Donald Schelke, said the 8-year-old at George Greene Elementary brought the pills into school and gave them to three other students.
The students didn't ingest the pills, but the superintendent told TV5 those students were verbally harassing the girl.
The case has been turned over to the Huron County prosecutor for review.
Schelke said the girl was out of class for two days while the school investigated to determine not only her safety in coming back, but also that of her classmates. They did determine it was safe, and she’s now back in class.
Schelke said it was not a disciplinary expulsion.
He also said the girl did not bring in the whole pill bottle -- only three pills. Schelke wouldn’t say what kind of pills they were, but he did say they were commonly prescribed, and that the girl’s parents are helping out as much as they can.
He said the school’s part in the matter is done, and whatever happens now is up to police and prosecutors.
The Huron County Prosecutor Tim Rutkowski told TV5 the incident happened April 20.
He is currently trying to decide if charges can be brought against the girl, who was 7 years old at the time of the incident.
