The Great Lakes Loons were beaten 10-1 by the Lansing Lugnuts on Tuesday and dropped to second place in the Midwest League's Eastern Division.
The Lugnuts scored six runs in the sixth inning and added two more runs in the seventh in a win that pushed them into first place in the East ahead of the Loons.
Loons starter Derek Cone surrendered only two runs over four innings of work and took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year.
Lugnut pitcher Casey Lawrence gave up only one run in six innings of work to pick up the win.
First place is on the line again Wednesday evening when these two teams play game two of this three-game set.
