Sheriff: Good Samaritan Robbed At Gunpoint 5-12-2011

The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department said it is investigating an armed robbery that occurred early Thursday morning.
Isabella County Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski said in a news release that a car driven by a 45-year-old Weidman woman was driving southbound on Winn Road near Fremont Road when she was flagged down by a man standing in the roadway.
The woman told police she saw his car parked on the side of the road with the engine not running. When she stopped, the man told her his car needed to be jump-started and asked if she could help. She pulled her car ahead of his in order to jump-start his vehicle and said the next thing she noticed was that he had jumper cables in one hand and a handgun in the other.
Authorities said the man told her he was from Detroit and needed gas money. She pleaded with him to put the gun away, and he did for a few seconds. She then took money from her purse and as she was going to hand it to him, he pulled the gun out a second time. She handed him a small amount of cash and pleaded with him to let her go. He agreed, so she got in her car and drove off. Police said the victim drove a safe distance away from the man but was still able to see him and she immediately called 911.
Police said the man then got in his car and began heading southbound on Winn Road. Two deputies from the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office ended up spotting the subject traveling southbound as he crossed into Montcalm County. They pulled him over and detained him until deputies from the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department arrived. He was then placed under arrest on suspicion of armed robbery and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Mioduszewski said two handguns were located in his car and said the man may also be charged with illegally carrying concealed weapons in Montcalm County.
The man is expected to be arraigned sometime Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. The case remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Department.
