Flint Might Ask Michigan To Review Finances 5-14-2011

The city of Flint is considering asking the state of Michigan to review its finances, a move that could that could result in new union contracts or the naming of an emergency financial manager.
Mayor Dayne Walling is expected to ask the City Council to approve a joint request Wednesday for a preliminary state financial review.
Walling said he hopes such a request results in a consent agreement that gives him or the council the power to change expired contracts for four public safety unions. The Flint Journal reported Saturday the city's police unions will challenge any attempt to put new contracts in place without collective bargaining.
The process also could result in the state naming an emergency financial manager under a recently revised state law.
