Rains, Flooding Soaks Much Of Mid-Michigan 5-16-2011

Heavy rains in parts of Mid-Michigan have caused flooding while dry weather in the Upper Peninsula has brought an increased risk of wildfires.
Flooding was reported Sunday on freeways in the Flint area. A pump that handles water on Interstate 475 under I-69 stopped working following a power outage. Workers put up barricades and signs warning drivers to stay off the road.
Heavy rainfall soaked golf courses, roads and yards in other parts of Genesee County.
The Shiawassee River in Owosso flooded as more rain fell Monday, while the Cass River in Frankenmuth was expected to crest Tuesday.
The National Weather Service says flood warnings or advisories were in effect for parts of the Lower Peninsula.
The wind gusts were impressive at times and topped out at an estimated 55 miles per hour near Saginaw.
Midland also saw its share of high winds. They were so strong a tree crashed down onto two cars parked in a driveway on Boston Street.
In parts of the Upper Peninsula, the weather service says there was an elevated risk of wind-fed wildfires from Monday and into the weekend.
