Wacky Warning Contest Has Frivolous Finalists 5-17-2011

Ballpoint pen-chewers, take note: The cap in your mouth can obstruct breathing if swallowed.
Common sense? Apparently for speakers of French, Spanish and German.
The creator of the annual Wacky Warning Labels contest says the warning appears only in the English section of the multilingual instructions from the pen-maker.
The pen cap caveat is among five finalists announced Tuesday in the 14th annual contest that calls out silly warning labels and rails against lawsuits it deems frivolous.
The contest is sponsored by the Atlanta-based nonprofit group The Center for America.
Contest creator Bob Dorigo Jones of Michigan says such warnings are uncommon outside the U.S. because legal systems in other countries don't allow frivolous lawsuits.
A winner is expected to be announced in June.
